Welcome to the ReRun Big Bang Challenge! As your mods, shutterbug_12  and I would like to welcome you to what we hope will be a very exciting few months :)  Can we firstly extend a million thanks to house_bigbang for letting us 'borrow' their rules, and if you enjoy House fanfiction, let me just tell you that Round Three has produced some crackers if you fancy heading over there to read or enjoy the artwork.

WRITERS, SIGN UP ON THIS POST.  The 10 eligible fandoms for rerun_bigbang  are as follows:

The West Wing
The X-Files
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Sports Night
Twin Peaks
Murphy Brown
Firefly
Battlestar Galactica
Boston Legal
Pushing Daisies

Challenge Rules for Writers
1. Stories must have a minimum length of 15 000 words. There is no maximum length.
2. Stories may be any genre: gen, poly, het, boyslash, or girlslash.
3. The story's central element must relate to one of the 10 eligible fandoms, and its characters. Crossovers and alternate universes are absolutely fine, too.
4. Stories will be posted to A03 and hidden until the reveal date.  You have until that date to make any final edits.  First drafts will be due on JULY 19th 2010.
5. The stories MAY NOT be posted, in whole or in part, prior to AUGUST 16th, 2010. Sharing with betas and/or a first reader is permitted, but please try and keep it under wrap until the big reveal!
6. All stories must be betaed before the final draft is submitted, and there will be a post in the comm where beta services can be offered.

Deadlines (i.e. the really important part!)
1. Sign-ups for writers close at 7 PM, EST, April 25th, 2010.

2. You must submit a complete draft by July 19th, 2010.  After this date you can make edits, have it re-beta'd or make any changes you wish (however significant) but if your draft is not submitted by this time, you will be assumed to have dropped out.

3. The  final draft is due August 16th, 2010.

4. The challenge site goes live on August 17th, 2010.

SIGN-UPS

Copy the coding from the box below, and paste it into a comment. Then fill it out.

What Your Wordcount Breaks Down To:

April 12th-August 16th is approximately 120 days. Which equates to 3750 a month or roughly 125 words a day. And don't worry if you can't stick rigorously to that, you'll be surprised how the words start flowing when deadline adrenaline gets you going ;)

If at any point you decide you will no longer be able to participate, please contact the mods and let us know. Email address is rerunbigbang@googlemail.com - please also direct your questions, comments or suggestions there or in the comments to this post.

We're so excited to be launching a project like this, especially for fandoms that have become quieter since shows ended.  Please, please pimp this all over your own f'lists and comms (with appropriate permissions) because it can be a chance to really create great stories for much-loved shows.  While we haven't included artwork as part of the challenge (mostly due to the nature of having a number of fandoms and thus fairly scattered participants) that's not to say we won't perhaps have some celebratory art around the reveal date, but for now, watch this space.

Yours in anticipation,

The Mods x

Time to vote! We've compiled all of the suggestions and created this poll to let all of you determine which eight fandoms will join The West Wing and The X-Files (we have exercised our privileges as moderators to choose one fandom of our choice) for this round of the challenge.

Before you vote, please read the DIRECTIONS. Please vote for your top three choices. There are, you may notice, more than three questions. That's because LJ is lame only allowed a limit number of choices for each question. So. The 'first choice' question is split into two parts (to include all 26 of the suggested fandoms), as is the 'second choice' and 'third choice' questions. If the fandom of your choice is not listed in the first part of the question, please choose the 'N/A' option and move on to the second part of that question, where you will find the fandom of your choice. (Conversely, if you find the fandom of your choice in the first part, please choose 'N/A' for the second part of the same question.) This is just to keep the totals in each part consistent.

SCORING. First choice answers will receive 3 points. Second choice will receive 2 points. Third choice will receive 1 point. Once the poll closes on March 28th at 11:59, these tallies will be added to arrive at a ranking order for all fandoms. If two or more fandoms are tied for eighth place, we will hold a tiebreaker.

If you have any questions or are confused, please ask before you vote.

This poll is closed.

BigBang contests are AMAZING, okay? Just because I technically haven't finished polishing my House one for this year, doesn't dampen that fact.

In a variety of conversations over the past couple of weeks, I've been bemoaning the fact that one of my biggest fandom loves, The West Wing, doesn't have the same sort of active community to sustain a challenge like this. Combined with the renaissance of an LJ-based X-Files game, I wondered if by combining the less busy fandoms of inactive shows, might we not be able to make something a bit bigger (and bangier)? In stepped shutterbug_12 to turn a casual conversation into a 'project'.

So, in the comments PLEASE give us your suggestions for fandoms such as these where you'd be itching to write a longer (20,000 word +) story for it. Once we have a list of suggestions, we'll post a poll to this same community (joining will help you keep track) and the top eight voted for will join the West Wing and the X-Files on the list of ten eligible fandoms.

Once that's done a full list of rules and dates will go up, so watch this space. Suggestions will be accepted until 11pm EST on Sunday 21st March 2010.
